Personally, I think if the companies wanted to spread out the games to different parts of the year, they'd have to redo all their development calenders. I'm sure each company has (I'll make examples for sake of ease here) a date set for "Phase 1" of a game by a certain date, "Phase 2" for another, etc. etc. If they changed it, they'd have to make a date for each game individually.
Also, it's been this way for years, so the consumers would have to change to buy the games they want throughout the year. There'd be less for people to ask for near Xmas time, so they'd have to come up with alternative presents. I don't really mind the games coming out at the end of the year (Xmas is Xmas and my Bday is the 4th of February) but my only gripe is the large amount of hyped up waiting for the games, and the insane amount of buying at one time. Can't beat them all as it is, and when it gets into the season, I'm really bogged down
