they need to do something about the holiday releases

You gotta remember, there are far more PS2's in people's houses than Xbox's...
That can't be true, I have one of each :p

Personally, I think if the companies wanted to spread out the games to different parts of the year, they'd have to redo all their development calenders. I'm sure each company has (I'll make examples for sake of ease here) a date set for "Phase 1" of a game by a certain date, "Phase 2" for another, etc. etc. If they changed it, they'd have to make a date for each game individually.
Also, it's been this way for years, so the consumers would have to change to buy the games they want throughout the year. There'd be less for people to ask for near Xmas time, so they'd have to come up with alternative presents. I don't really mind the games coming out at the end of the year (Xmas is Xmas and my Bday is the 4th of February) but my only gripe is the large amount of hyped up waiting for the games, and the insane amount of buying at one time. Can't beat them all as it is, and when it gets into the season, I'm really bogged down :p

Yeah but assuming you have the money to get all the games you want, or that you buy some and get the rest as presents, when are you realistically going to be able to play all of them? At least if they were released throughout the year you could work on one game a week, month, etc. But if you get 5-10 games all at once, how do you decide which to play first? What order to play them in? Do you play a little bit of them all at once or play one and move on to the next?

Ya, I probably could have phrased that better, but you know what I meant.
I just had to do it :p

I just play what I'm in the mood for at the time, and a little bit of them all at once (which now looking back is a very bad way to do them, as most of my games are as of yet unbeaten... My new goal is to beat as many of them as I can).

I just wanted to bump this because I think all of our predictions are funny to look back on.

Halo 2 has done, what, 5 million units in sales so far? Even I didn't predict that.

As for RE4...I think it will do pretty well coming out in January. A lot of people will be getting money or gift certificates for Christmas...RE4 comes out just in time for them to use that money or those gift certificates on. :D We've gotten over 30 reserves on it at GameStop so far, and I fully expect people to come in after it comes out and ask for it and probably not get it because it will sell out. Kind of like what happened with the DS...there were a lot of people that were like, "Oh, I don't need to reserve it. I'll be able to find it." Yeah, they sure were. Not. :lol

I like to look back at what I said about Halo 2, just because that's the only game I've played in the last couple months that really kind of blew me away, and I expected it to be just another FPS.

How did GTA: San Andreas and MGS do sales-wise anyway?

I'm not sure, but I know a lot of people that got them. I for one got San Andreas on the release date, and plan to get MGS after I beat the first then buy (and beat) the second.

Pretty much everyone where I work that plays video games has GTA: San Andreas, and some of my friends have it.

I'll be interested in seeing how it's compairing to Halo 2.

Somehow, I don't think it's doing as well.  Just from all the sales Halo 2 got, and the fact that stores were packed at midnight, I'm thinking that it sold more.

MGS: Snake Eater sold really well the first week and then dropped off. And I think that most people who really wanted Halo 2 already have it.

Today I spent practically my whole 8 hour shift at Wal-Mart at the game case getting people games and the biggest sellers were GTA: San Andreas, NFSU 2 (PS2/XBOX), and Madden 2005 (PS2).
