Too early or too crazy? "Xbox 3" is in the works as we speak

Indeed. Sony and Nintendo just wanted to go for a picnic on a sunny afternoon where they could eat gumdrops and sugar cookies all day long. It wasn't until big bad Microsoft showed up that the console market became a competition...

Indeed. Sony and Nintendo had agreed upon a minimum lifespan per system, and all was harmonious and calm in the console market. It wasn't until big bad Microsoft showed up that game companies realized their might be an edge in getting the jump on the competition...

Oh my dear boy, how apparent that it is you are blind with these attempted observations. This statement makes the falsified implication that it has never been done before. This jump start has done nothing to benefit Microsoft. 360 will do similarly well to XBX, if not slightly better. But let's keep throwing money. A few generations down the line we'll have some more market share and maybe some profit this time.

The only console that has completely shut down since new consoles have been launched has been the GC (save Zelda). I'm not sure Microsoft's tactics are really the cause of your ill temperment.

Haha. Yeah, the X Box section rocks. Microsoft dropped that like a rock and you're joking yourself if you think otherwise.

I meant to say in my first statement

They added the first successful centralized online service for consoles, which is one of the main reasons people who choose Microsoft over Nintendo or Sony do choose MS over them.

I made a mistake by not being clear enough, because unlike you apparently, I am not a god.

The stats speak for themselves. It's been well over a year since the 360 released and the Xbox is still slated to get several more titles later this year, a full year and a half to two years since Microsoft apparently "shortened the life span" of this generation. How many games do you see scheduled to arrive on the cube? And it's only been a couple of months. Seeing as how the Xbox is still getting new titles to it's platform one could easily deduce that it's lifespan was longer than that of the gamecube's, making it a run of about 6 years. I don't know exactly how long previous generations lasted, but 6 years of games on a console seems a fair amount to me.

I suppose "dropped like a rock" is a figurative phrase and could be interpreted in many ways, but the obvious intention with which it was used in your statement implies it is misappropriately placed at best.

This statement makes the falsified implication that it has never been done before.

No, "my dear boy," it was sarcasm, as in I was implying the opposite of what was literally said. Indeed, I meant that Nintendo and Sony had each raced to release their consoles in the past, and what Microsoft was doing was nothing new or special. Which, coincidentally, refutes your point.

I thought it was obvious, but I guess I also better clarify that I don't think Sony and Nintendo go on picnics, nor was I literally implying that they ate gumdrops and sugar cookies. If my observations are done blindly I begin to wonder with what senses your observations are made, if any at all.

This isn't unsual, to begin development so fast.

However, Microsoft's agenda is to push competitors out the gate with money. And that's it.

They shortened the last generation's life span without adding anything of significance and they'll likely be doing it again. Screw their tactics.

This statement could not be any more wrong. Software developers always begin the next project when they finish the first. The same is true with hardware developers. Inventors are in a constant state of brainstorming and development. It is not uncommon to be working on multiple ideas at a time.

Last but not least, the previous generation had almost exactly the same lifespan of generations passed. Five to Six years has always been the norm for a platform. In the 80s we even saw shorter lifespans as platforms died off quickly from intense competition.

Quoted for truth ;)

Basically, it seems crazy right now that they are planning for it right now, but when it is coming out in 5-6 years, all that planning will definitely pay off from MS's end.

Also don't kid yourself about the other companies not making money. That is what business is about and also what puts food on the table....

Uh...

No. Dude. Your second statement is EXACTLY what I said. Maybe you misread?

Um...who exactly is still making games for XBOX? I haven't had any new XBOX games come out and there are none listed as coming out. Not even Madden 08! Now I know GameStop doesn't get everything right, but EA was still making Madden for the PSone up to like Madden 05. So if EA is not making Madden 08 for the XBOX, you know it's dead.

A bunch of valusoft and licensed games are being made. Same with Cube and PS2. With PS2 getting the most love from third parties.

According to IGN, Gamespy, and numerous other sources Madden 08 IS coming out for the Xbox, in addition to numerous other titles.

yeah... EA tends to do this.

They did it with the PSX/Psone... where they kept releasing sports titles for it. really.... if they can port it cheap to that console and there are few costs, why not do it?

†B†V† :hat

Why is it a surprise that Microsoft is working on their next console? This is always how it goes. A console is made and then the company starts work on the next one. 8)

Because they couldn't put rumble in it.
They removed rumble because of the tilt. It would do things like screw you up.
