Re: Nintendo 3DS in Japan February 2011. USA and Europe? March 2011.

Yea that's why I'm thinking it'll be $250 here.

Re: Nintendo 3DS in Japan February 2011. USA and Europe? March 2011.

Nintendo are becoming more and more like Apple:

Frequent updates of hardware.
Super control freaks when it comes to anyone trying to do homebrew (and I don't mean pirating)
More than willing to overcharge for chic gadgetry if they can get away with it.

Never doubt that companies will overcharge you if they think they can get away with it - no matter which platform you're a fan of.

Also - I'm waiting for the inevitable announcement of region locking.

They already are. All it took was for the Wii to take off. They wouldn't be like this if they sold the same as the GameCube.

Nah. Nintendo actually went the sane route and uses SD cards.

Yup and it comes with a 2GB SD Card already, which can be upgraded to a 32GB.

Re: Nintendo 3DS in Japan February 2011. USA and Europe? March 2011.

Nintendo didn't just drop a Japanese release date and price for the 3DS tonight -- in a document (PDF) released following this evening's press conference, the company detailed more of the hardware's features, including unexpected pack-ins.

Â¥25,000 ($299) will net you -- among other things -- a charging cradle, 2GB SD card, telescoping metal stylus and six "paper cards" that can be used for playing the system's built-in augmented reality games. (The 3DS' outward-facing 3D camera will detect and replace them in the "scene" with different 3D objects.)

3DS will also perform some neat new tricks. It has backlit face buttons -- one of which is the Home button. When pressed, it will bring up an in-game menu enabling users to browse the web, turn Wi-Fi on/off and modify other settings without exiting.

Finally, there's a breakdown of the built-in software, which includes "Nintendo 3DS cameras," "Nintendo 3DS sound," Mii Studio," "Chance Encounter Mii Plaza," "AR Games" and "Book" (an ebook reader, perhaps?). Mii Studio is unique in that it allows players to snap photos of themselves to use as a basis for their Mii. More details as they hit.

Were you expecting a complete overhaul or something? I wasn't, which is why I am not disappointed. From the quick 2 second footage I saw the graphics looks much better than the Cube version, so that's cool with me.

Such a lack of RPGs. I thought it was suppsoed to have graphics rivaling that of the PS3/360, the graphics in most of the games look marginally better than Gamecube games, and thats only in scenes in which there wasnt high action.

Why did the first RPG have to be a Tales game?

They're worse than Star Ocean 4!

UGH

Re: Nintendo 3DS in Japan February 2011. USA and Europe? March 2011.

Well, the advantage to the March release and possible higher price tag will be that it should discourage some of the resellers from buying them up to sell online-- coming out then and being more expensive, I doubt the profit margin will be quite as high for reselling unless it is REALLY hot.

The problem is that it is a port... why do we need more ports?

why did the first RPG have to be a tales game? because to me tales games are the best RPG experience there is out there and to have it on the go is an even better experience
