Re: Nintendo 3DS in Japan February 2011. USA and Europe? March 2011.

It's a little pricey. I may wait until it comes out bundled with one of the games I really want for the 3DS.

Meh, If is good i'll get it, that's the same thing i said when i got enough money to buy my PS3. not to mention it already has for it a big number of games that interest me (mainly the chocobo racing sequel....that's just bringing back my childhood memories)

And how will one break the lock?

So let's pretend it's February 26th, 2011. You are living in Japan and you pre-ordered a 3DS. What games will you be able to play on Day 1?

* Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D
* Nintendogs + Cats from Nintendo
* Pilotwings Resort (working title) from Nintendo
* Pro Baseball Spirits from Konami
* Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle from Level 5
* Ridge Racer 3D from Namco Bandai
* Samurai Warriors Chronicle from Tecmo Koei
* Steel Diver from Nintendo
* Super Monkey Ball (working title) from Sega
* Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition from Capcom.

Gees, there goes my week of school/work. Look at those titles!

Re: 3DS Japanese Launch Titles (Remember this, it will be remembered in history)

Hmm, the only one that seems worthwhile if it's even your cup of tea seems like Ocarina of Time...which is just a remake, in 3D. But that's just me.

Hints at "Slightly higher than a normal DS game". So is that like close to the $50 range now?

Considering the games look much better than a Wii game and is in 3D, I would say that sounds about right.

I concur, I guess I'm just too old fashion.

*lights my corncob pipe*

Back in our day, GameBoy games were priced $29.99 brand spankin' new! boy howdy! Den the Sega GameGear games were at $39.99. Dem prices were reasonable, outright ridiculous wit dem fancy contraptions! Until Nintendo DS brought back that pricing, I just think it's ornery that they tryin to push'em up by a few hair dollars, enough to get my beard trimmed and get the Hatfield's off of muh propertee.

A remake you say? Sure the Wii got a GameCube port of Twilight Princess with tweaked controls. The secret? It makes breakfast cereals and prints money.

3DS Cartridges hold approx. 8GB

However, Nintendo wants to limit it's awesomeness by 2GB per game. (You know that won't last long). Seriously, why is Nintendo SO scared of large space??

January 19th. Nintendo will give details on the 3DS launch in North America.

Nintendo's North American plans for its stereoscopic 3D portable gaming machine will become much more clear on January 19, 2011, when the company holds a preview event for its next big thing, the Nintendo 3DS.

The company will be hosting a Nintendo 3DS event packed with "hands-on game play, demos and a presentation by president and COO of Nintendo of America Reggie Fils-Aime" next month in New York, where it's expected that release dates, launch titles and price will be officially unveiled to the video game press. Yes, this is a press-only event, but Kotaku will be attending and letting you know exactly what happens.

Japan gets the Nintendo 3DS on February 26. Will North America be too far behind? Best guesses are placing the 3DS for a mid-March release in the States.

And when will we get "launch title" Kid Icarus Uprising, the next Pilotwings, the 3D-enhanced remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and all those other games? Hopefully we'll have the answers to those questions and many more on January 19.

Children under 6 may have problems playing the 3DS.

Next month, Nintendo is showing off the Nintendo 3DS to the general public in Japan for the first time. It could possibly make you sick. Oh, and don't plan on bringing young kids for 3D fun.

Nintendo has a couple warnings regarding the Nintendo 3DS. These are general safety warnings for 3D, but here, Nintendo 3DS specific.

Up until now, Nintendo recommended a break after an hour of play. But that was 2D, and as Nintendo notes, 3D causes quicker eye fatigue and some 3D software causes eyes to become more tired faster than other software.

But in the case in which players are able to enjoy 3DS games problem free, Nintendo recommends taking a break after 30 minutes of play.

"If your physical condition worsens or you become ill, please stop playing at once," states Nintendo.

The company notes that 3D has different effects on different people. The inclusion of the 3D slider, which allows players to tweak the 3D effect helps ensure that a wider range of players can enjoy the 3DS.

However, children under six years old will be included in that range. Nintendo points out that the vision of young children is still in developmental stages, which is why it recommended that they do not use the 3DS's 3D effects as well as watch 3D movies and 3D television.

Viewing 3D at a young age could have effects later in life.

According to Nintendo, "Since the Nintendo 3DS can be changed to 2D to avoid any effects on young children's vision, it is possible for anyone to enjoy playing it." But not of course 3D.

Nintendo is going as far as to include 3D parental controls for the Nintendo 3DS.

Re: Children under 6 may have problems playing the 3DS.

That makes me think that I will not be able to use the 3D effects. I get motion sickness easy from certain games that I am not able to play. >:( :(

There's a good chance that might happen then. There were times when I got a headache playing the game. I think it's mostly due to the fact that your eyes are trying to remain focused because if they don't, you lose the 3D effect and the game just appears fuzzy. Which makes your eyes hurt a little bit more.

Doesn't mean you can't take advantage of the games and the new powerful hardware.

I agree. I just will not be as eager to pick one up. I will maybe wait for a drop in price. Hopefully I won't have enough money to pick up one before then. If I have the money before? Resistance would be futile! I will become part of the collective.

The Price of a 3DS game in Japan is nearly $70 O.o

Just hours before a weekend-long 3DS Nintendo World showcase kicks off in Tokyo, an established Japanese gaming news outlet is reporting details about the system's launch in that country that could signal what we're getting in March in the U.S.

Inside Games says the 3DS will go on sale in Japan on February 26, according to a translation of the outlet's article on website Andriasang. The Japanese site puts the price of 3DS games at 5800 Yen, compared to the common 4800 Yen price for regular DS games. That would be about $70 US for 3DS games compared to $58 US for DS games.

The 3DS is scheduled to launch in America in March, though we don't have an exact date or price (presumably to be revealed at a 3DS press event in New York City on Jan 19).

Nintendo hasn't revealed game prices in America or Japan, but the Inside Games report signals that software may cost more on the 3DS than on the DS. In the U.S., top DS games often go for about $30-$35.

(In Japan, the 3DS will sell for 25,000 Yen or about $300 US; there's no hardware price confirmed for the U.S. yet.)

Inside Games also reports that the 3DS will launch in Japan with 10 games. Nintendo is showing more than that during their Tokyo event this weekend, a sign that the glasses-free 3D successor to the DS is still getting a lot of support from game creators.

A spokesperson for Nintendo of America was unable to comment on these details which, it should be clear, were not announced by Nintendo in Japan.

Nintendo's 3DS event in Japan — Nintendo World 2011 — kicks off in just a few hours. We'll be keeping an eye on it and letting you know the latest about the games and news coming out of it.

How long is the 3DS Battery Life?

The first day you crack it out of the box...

As part of its big Nintendo World event being held in Tokyo at the moment, Nintendo has released a chart outlining the final hardware specifications for the 3DS. Most importantly, that includes details on the handheld's battery life.

It takes 3.5 hours for a 3DS battery to fully charge, which is pretty good. As for how fast that battery drains, Nintendo has only provided a select number of figures, all based on the presumption you're using the handheld on a lower screen brightness level.

With the screen's backlighting turned down (but not off), you'll get 3-5 hours of battery life while playing a 3DS game. That number extends to 5-8 hours if you're playing an older DS game on the handheld.

Of course, the more you increase the screen's brightness, the bigger the hit the 3DS' battery life will take. While people will be upset that these numbers seem low for a Nintendo handheld, they're not that far off what you'd expect from a DSi, and considering the 3DS is a much more powerful device, all that extra grunt takes its toll on a battery.

If you're after definitive battery life tests on a unit under all kinds of circumstances, we'll have to wait until people can use one without Nintendo employees standing over their shoulders.
