Tekken Tag Tournament is the best of the best.
cheers to that ^_^
bear in mind, favorites, not necessarily best, though i like my top three as such, but mvc2 is junk, but so much fun to play
1.) TTT
2.) MK2
3.) SF: 3rd strike
4.) Guilty Gear X
5.) MVC2
6.) SamSho2
7.) SC
8.) Project Justice
9.) Garou
10.) CVS2
TTT, i just love. i've easily put in 1800+ hours, seriously. used to travel for that garbage. still play it. tekken 2 got me hooked, played the hell out of 3, dissappointed heavily with 4, though i did play it quite a bit, starting to love 5, eagerly waiting release.
mk2 i've played for about 300 hours on the cabinet alone here not counting snes days. never cared for the combo system added. MKDA i thought little of, but i think they're improving it in Deception
SF3rd strike. well, it's pretty, good, cool characters, fun to play. a good sequel finally for the SF series.
Guilty Gear was an interesting play. didn't start with guilty gear the first one, played it though. didn't care for asuka, x2 and reload are good too, but GGX itself started me with buying the rest. sol badguy, easily one of the coolest fighters
MVC2 is a game of trash. who's the cheapest. the reason why this is kind of a depressing fighter is there is no reason to take a capcom person unless it's commando for the assist, and if you take strider, you've got a guaranteed spot for dr doom. still, fast, enjoyable destroying scrubby people. works enough.
SamSho2, i like this the best of the series b/c of the airblock. either a love or hate for a person, i like b/c i hate turtling people. so at least i can go in and defend somewhat.
SC was such an improvement from souledge. the speed, cool character additions, parrying. good arcade time spent here. didn't like sc2 as much b/c i wish the extra characters they brought in were more themself. liked hwang :-/ they shouldn't have gave him that yunsung worthlessness. and scrubs abound with the conquest mode. like them beating my "ghost" was the same as beating me... 50 cents proved that a second later
Project Justice was a good 3d fighter that i wish the cabinet would play. the create a character was extremely fun but it's sad how the american version lacked that. i liked the characters, plenty of variety. and to my knowledge, there is no extreme cheapness in the game. which is odd
Garou, a lot of fun in 2d form. snk was amazing kicking in a completely new roster (excluding terry) and they were all cool characters. i liked the gauge where you chose where strength was, (which 1/3 of power it's on) and the combos looked really cool.
CVS2. granted i stuck mostly to capcom people except for geese, rock and joe, but a lot of good there with the groove choice. favorite moment was watching a last round tourney match where the ken jumped in, parried all of chunli's qcf x2 + 3K, and then as landed, 3 hits, qcb x2 3K, death.
ssbm is not a fighter ~_~. great game, i love it, but no fighter in my books.

I'm not a fan of fighters, and never have been. I've always been under the impression that they're button-mashing wastes of time, but that's probably because I suck at them :lol. But to me, who hasn't played many fighting games, all of them are basically the same thing over and over with just different character and level skins. Nothing different in any fighter that I've been able to distinguish.
Maybe I just phail at fighters?
every fighter is different. the styles you use, the combos, there is always a subtle difference in moves despite how cloned some fighters seem, frame or move property wise.
they just need massive amount of hours and many people to play to enjoy and get better. the computer does very little being predictable.

I find that 3D games are often too much eye candy..not enough depth, and many times they are simple enough to get by with button mashing.
a button masher and a person of skill are easily distinguished. button mashing works on the computer maybe, but that means little. any intelligent person is able to easily counter the lack of knowledge and exploit stupid weaknesses as in any 2d fighter
granted, there are a decent amount of not-so-great 3d, but classifying them all as such is like saying GC is all kiddy games ^_^
waku-waku 7, interesting choice. i like the giant white bunny with the kid on his back
