It's a side effect of posting a lot. A person doesn't post a lot to get on that list, but getting on the list can be a side-effect of posting a lot.

And being on that list doesn't make the person a spammer. It is possible to post a lot and add to the discussion you know.
 
Statistic are used to gather and see how the population at hand is responding. There must be some sort of reason for implementing this stat. IT certainly cant be there for the sake of simply providing curious parties to see the numbers of posts key members have made for a simple chuckle or sparkle of awe.

That's exactly what it's there for. They're just there for people who are curious of various stats about the forums.

No. A person's reason for posting a lot isn't to get on that list. Getting on that list, however happens as an effect of posting a lot. I've said this three times now and I just don't get what's complicated about it.

Well, no offense but regardless of what you might think is the reason, the real reason is for general statistics of the board. So you can continue thinking what you want to think, but I can tell you if you think otherwise you're 100% wrong.

People find topics in which they find interesting, other people find it interesting, a conversation ensues in the topic posts rack up, you gain posts, get on list. Did that make things less complicated?

Yes I guess that can explain it.

but still to think that if you dont want to end up on the list, you are inadvertently added. Thats like you go and save a kitten from a tree and you are automatically handed the keys to the city when you never wanted them to begin with.

I only read the first few posts, this topic doesn't seem like it needs to be an argument or anything if that's what's going on. No one cares how many posts anyone else has.

Who cares if you are on the list. It's a statistic, not "The list of the Gods" or something like that. If you get mugged or something you will become a statistic even though you don't want to be. It's not like getting on the Dean's list it's just statistics.

I thought the method of being on the Top 10 Poster list by being one of the top 10 posters would have been simple to grasp at the beginning of the thread.
