Wii dragging video games down?

That's hardly true, either. I'm 14, yet I love Super Mario Galaxy and the like. The rating has nothing to do with the fun of the game.

they are not superior. It all depends on what generation your in...Teenagers obviously like T games better then E games and so on...thats why they rate them like that...a target audience is the base of which nearly all games are built around...

good point

(i told you to watch out for fhq, dont mind the sarcasm :lol)

@fhq, he brings up some good points in his posts, so dont be dissin on him

not that you were

Well (im not big on Mario, im assuming they are E games), you one the fence...barely being a teenager your still attached to the games you consider your child hood (not totally you but most younger kids), which isn't a bad thing at all...i still play games that i did when 9 or 11, but they are no longer my favorites nor my most bought (as i assume it is for most gamers)...thats what im trying to get across...

And i never stated rating had to do with the fin of a game, at least i don't think i did, lol)

Hardly, I play Halo, Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, Metroid Prime, Mario. I'm not attached to them, they're just good games.

But 3 of those are not games of your childhood, probably because they just came out this year...and they are M...i dont think you understand what im saying here...

You're saying I'm drawn to a game that came out this year because it's rated E and I'm 'young'.

No not at all...im saying (again not wanting to fight with you) that SOME gamers who are currently Turning into Teen gamers are most likely still gonna play they games of old that are new but not new...

Example: you may play the new Metroid Prime game that has come out simply because you liked the older Metroid Primes as a "kid"...but as you age, what makes a good game for you differs...

I hope you get what i mean by this...

I first played the Prime series last summer. I didn't grow up with video games like most, my first game was Blue after kindergarten, and after that, that was it, until I got my GBA and PS2 sometime in '03 or '04, where my gaming really became a focus of mine. I get what you're saying, it's just not true in my case.

i'm not like that.....i play a game that grabs my attention, without caring if it is an old franchise or a new one, example: zack and wiki quest for barbaro's treasure

exactly

if i see a sweet game, the first thing that goes through my head isnt "hey, i wonder if that games box will have an M on it!? MUST FIND OUT!"

i see a game, it looks cool, i buy it. period. rating tells me nothing except that little children shouldnt play it, and thats about it.

Yup, buy the console for the old IPs you know will be good, check out the new IPs in the meantime.

Lol...i understand that, but what if your not allowed to buy a game that looks sweet simply because your not old enough...that isn't fair to some...I think the ESRB is way out of hand on they way they rate games...

well, no. they rate games comepletely fairly, they simply tell you whats in the game.

its up to the parents to dictate what their kids play

Sucks for them. I can get M rated games, my parents are able to understand that I'm capable of understanding it's nothing more than a game.

And the ESRB, bleh, I know. We all have problems with them. Halo should be T, Metroid Prime should be E, they gave Twilight Princess a T just becasue it has sparkly white blood dripping out of Ganon's stomach as the hint. It doesn't even look remotely bloodlike.

@Hines: That's very true, but most parents don't look at the descriptions, just the letter.

well sadly that's the way the company of the world works.. not only with games with a lot of different things.

anyway i know that that is not the problem for some, usually people on this forum have someone to buy their M rated games (i ask my sister) or some gamers are already 17 years old

Well a lot of stores wont sell M games to 16 year olds...when the game has they same themes as a movie thats rated PG-PG13...

But im speaking out of hatred for the ESRB, so im being bias...

there's always a point in our lives that we hate the ERSB or the rating systems (mine was when my sister was sick and resident evil 4 was out)

Oh god, everyone hates the ESRB, they have no clue what's standard these days. Every teenager is playing Halo and stores are gladly selling them, yet it's rated M.

my parents do, that's why im allowed to have certain M games, and others im not allowed to have

and I think prime deserved it's T rating, maybe not for gore or anything, but it was kind of a frightening game to give to your 6 year old.

The six year old wouldn't be able to even play it.
