Wii vs. Playstation 3 vs. Xbox 360

BioShocker!
OK. I'll start off by saying that I'm new to this forum and this is actually my first post. I was surprised to not already find this topic in the centre of a heated debate, so I thought I'd make one. So which do you think is the best out of the three 7th generation consoles? Remember, I said think. I hope there'll be no childish name-calling etc.

Personally, I'm a 360 man. I live in the UK (where the Wii is just about to be released and the PS3 has been *surprise, surprise* delayed yet again). I haven't just got a 360 out of impatience, I honestly think it is the best games console out on any market at the moment. I love games like GoW, SD vs. RAW 07 (yes, I'm a wrestling fan, thank you very much), CoD3 and even Oblivion. In fact, those are the 4 I have, save from CoD3- which I'm getting very soon. This new motion sensor stuff just doesn't do it for me, I find the PS3 is WAY overpriced for something which I think MAY just have a very SLIGHT edge over the 360 and I find the Wii's rane of games, well, childish I suppose. Back to the supject of motion sensors; I think dropping the rumble is a HUGE mistake and that motion sensors should only be accesories to consoles, not in-built to teh actual controllers.

Anyway, your opinions please.

There's a few topics that kinda encompass this around. A "Who's gonna win this cycle" poll...a "no killer apps at launch" one...both topics I've made. However, there's no reeeeal way to tell right now. The 360 is ahead in terms of games, but has ZERO japanese market. Sony's stalling and having problems, but who knows...people are weird sony brand loyalists. And the Wii is doing well, but really hasn't had a track record yet either. We gotta wait and see for a bit til games come out for the PS3 and Wii and those system's potentials are realized like the 360.

Other than that...this board has a Nintendo Brand Nazi Brigade (I did the NB NB on purpose for you literary people), which I'm a part of, who are insanely loyal to Nintendo. Wii will destroy the competition. :D

I've written pages upon pages of speculation about this topic. I'll say it right out, I'm a Nintendo fan. But, there are things to be offered by the other systems as well.

The 360 is probably dominating on games and graphics right now. It does have a nice selection of games, based on what your interests are. Rumble being dropped has upset a lot of people, but at least the controller wasn't gargantuan like the first controllers of the 360's predesessor. I really can't tell much about the 360 itself, except that the hardware does have a lot of potential for future games.

Sony is catching a lot of flak for the PS3. From what I understand (don't quote me on this), Sony is losing a lot of profit from other areas of the market. Perhaps this is why they were a little underhanded with their development. Anyway, I don't know all the details, but my impression is that Sony is looking to push the hardware factor, using the latest technology, blah blah blah. I don't really care. You could have a NASA supercomputer and it wouldn't matter. What it needs is for a game to be fun. Maybe Sony can save itself if it can deliver on the actual games. How many people are really gonna buy the PS3 to play Blu-ray movies? I dunno how many people remember the typical malfunction the PS2 had when playing DVDs a few times (in that the lens burnt out). Personally, as you can tell, I'm not in favor of Sony. But they did have the largest variety of games for the PS2, so we'll have to wait and see if third party support stays with them or backs out.

And then theres the Wii. Yeah, Nintendo seems to have had a lot of strikes against them in America. Yes, we all know Wii is a silly name. Yeah, maybe you don't want people to stop thinking you're Mr. Macho or something so you don't wanna be waving your arms around. Maybe Nintendo didn't push the hardware factor as hard as they could have. And yes, to some the games may be "childish". But Nintendo could be considered a pioneer in the console industry. Maybe not entirely original, but a lot of things Nintendo does seem to stick around. When the joystick came out for the N64, joysticks and such were on every controller there after. When Nintendo had the Wavebird, every console came up with its own version of it. Now wireless is a standard. Now, Nintendo launched the DS and DS Lite with dual screens and a touch pad. The DS Lite is currently dominating not only the handheld market, but the console market as well. So Nintendo might have done something different. It's up to personal preference of who wants to try it or not. I think Nintendo is rather comfortable of where they are right now and aren't worrying about it. And they still have a pretty solid Japenese market.

Yeah, so I know more about Nintendo than the others, as well as am biased towards them. But I'm really not saying to knock the other systems. I am actually excited to try out the other systems when I have a chance. As far as who I expect to "win" this round? Thats hard saying. It depends on what the market wants. If people only want dominating graphics, it might be between the 360 and PS3. If its about something different, PS3 might have a chance, but the Wii will be more in the running. But the Wii is also being targeted towards older folks, which might boost some sales or completely backfire. The price of the PS3 might hurt Sony in the start, but who knows what some fanatics will do. I guess when putting things that way, the 360 seems the most solid, if not the most like its predesessor, and would be looking towards a good run.

Still, we have only seen the launches. We'll have to wait quite some time to see who pulls out ahead.

I've noticed there's quite a few pro-Wii people on this forum. I find the Wii is good for "fun" and "party" games, which -of course- causes people to say it doesn't appeal to the adult market. I'm inclined to agree with that statement. I'm also inclined to agree that this "war" is only just beginning, there's no real way to tell yet.

It's good that there's competition out there- as long as none of these big names burns out like Sega. I'd say if any burned out it would almost definitely be Nintendo, they're primarily a videogame company whereas Microsoft and Sony have other markets to fall back on.

What has largely put me off the Wii- other than I'm just not a "fun" games person- is that it isn't an all-around media centre like it's competition. I've heard rumours it doesn't play DVDs, is that true? What's put me off PS3 is that, despite formerly being a crazed Sony brand loyalist, the price is WAY too high, the actual machine has been delayed more than I can bear and I don't see any decent games on it that aren't sequels from Sony's previous formats. I'm also not too encouraged by this Sixaxis business, I miss the good ol' Duelshock!

Now, as I've already stated, I'm a 360 man. I love all the Multi-media stuff you get on the 360, there are plenty of "serious" games (I'm a fan of the overly-macho men in big techno-suits with big multi-function guns personally), it plays DVDs, it's ahead in the market- thanks to that lovely early release date, and, most importantly, there's no motion sensors attached to the controllers, meaning I get plenty of vibration fun! That came out wrong.

If I'm honest, I'd say that the 360 is going to win this gen much as PS2 did last gen. It may be less powerful than one of it's competitors (even though I've read the graphics processor in the PS3 is only slightly better than the 360's one), but it's certainly learned the tricks of the trade from it's withered parent console.

True that nintendo is primarily video games, but as I mentioned earlier, they are dominating the handheld market. I think worst case-scenario in the short run (say, the life span of these next gen systems), they may pull out of consoles and focus completely on handhelds.

Now, as I've already stated, I'm a 360 man. I guess that all comes down to personal preference. Personally, I don't need a second computer to see pictures and I have a DVD player for movies. But if it works for you, thats great. As far as the early release, I guess I really can't tell if that's an advantage or not. Save for the fact that there was no competition at the time it came out, it might lose this years holiday rush to not only other systems, but other electronic devices in general. Still, I'm no economist or anything.

At the moment 360 for reasons already mentioned in this topic. At the end of this gen-cycle? I'd say it will be between the Wii and the 360.

Wii60 for the win! :D

Standard video games (and controls) on the 360; quirky games and Nintendo franchises on the Wii.

That's the combo I have going. I have the 360 for stuff like Oblivion, Gears of Wear, Dead or Alive 4, and eventually Halo 3. I have the Wii for Zelda, Trauma Center, and eventually Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Wii wins worldwide this gen. It's fairly clear.

Sad, sad, sad child. :lol

Def the year of the Wii60. Online play is a huge part in success now-a-days. Also, the graphics and gameplay offered by the 360 is unparallel.

The Wii's pretty good too.

All I can say is lol, Strubes. Again, you're doing that thing that most Americans do - not looking past their front yard.

Yep, I'm American. And what are you?

Aryan. Only I realize there's a whole world out there and we're not the only people who matter.

We're talking about video games. :lol

Yeah, we are. And I apologize that you can't see past the most elementary point of my post.

Sure sure, that's what they all say. But can you deny yourself when you look in the mirror?

Anyways, I'm tired. I'll def be back tomorrow if anything else is posted, which it shouldn't...cause the 360 rules. Goodnight.

Care for a wager?

I agree the Wii60 is a killer combo. I might get a Wii some time in the future when the price drops. I'd probably use it as a sort of party system and play it mostly when my friends are over, I'm also interested in perhaps rekindling my love with a certain Mario Kart (Double Dash or, eventually I hope, a Ma-Wii-o Kart version). With the bonus of being able to download Nintendo 64 games onto it (are there any SNES options BTW?) I doubt I'll be able to resist for ever.

Correct me if I'm wrong but last generation, by sales alone, wasn't it:
1. PS2
2. Xbox
3. Gamecube?

I'm looking for a shift in the direction of Microsoft/Nintendo this time round, with the major stall in distributing PS3s.

On the handheld side of things, the DS has definitely got its hands full with the PSP. Personally, I'm not a fan of the PSP (or iPods for that matter)- these fashion accesories/media devices have a tendency to get stolen.
