Convince me to get this instead of the X-Box 360

Yea exactly, I don't want a blu-ray player though, I want a game console. And it's not cool that we have to pay extra for a mandatory feature. I mean, I know it has some benefits for gaming such as larger disc capacity {correct me if that's wrong} but look at say, a 360 game such as Oblivion; I am perfectly content with that technology! Heck, even regular Xbox and PS2 games are still very impressive to me, so I guess for me the cost just isn't worth it when there's other, cheaper, means to get a satisfying gaming experience. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not trying to start a pissing match over consoles, I'm just merely stating my opinions on the PS3. I hope I don't offend anybody, 'cause that's not my intention :)

Quoted for truth! I don't know about you guys but I barely have time to play games the length they are between work and family obligations. If using blu-ray discs with more capacity means games will be even longer, I'm really don't consider that any kind of benefit for myself.

Thank you! That is what I have been saying all along! If the 360 came with the HD-DVD Player built-in, it would be $600.00 also. It is the cost of that part alone that drove up the price.

That's kind of the point though. MS made the HD-DVD optional so that if you didn't want it, you weren't paying more right out of the box for a feature you weren't going to use anyway. I appreciate that approach. If they had included the HD-DVD player and the 360 had been $600 instead of $400, I wouldn't have gotten it. I don't have any pressing desire to move into HD-DVD or blu-ray when I have a nice collection of DVDs already (some of which I haven't watched yet!).

Exactly. Not to mention that most HD and Blu-Ray movies are just upscaled DVD's and not true HD. I'd rather just buy an upscaler for my current DVD's and purchase some type of HD player when the majority of the movies are in true HD.

I know that they did not have to add the Blue-Ray, but what I am saying is that is why it is $600.00 and that is what I have been saying all along. Plus, MS better do a better job with that "Add-On" HD-DVD Player because it is the worst rated out there. At least the PS3 Blue-Ray Player ranks among the best.

But, I still love my 360 and when it came time to decide which to get rid of, the PS3 and Wii were gone!

Re: Convince me to buy a PS3

I wouldn't buy the PS3. From what i have heard there are a ton of tweaks and leaks that need to be fixed on it. I'd get the Wii. I haven't heard anything about it being bad. Plus you can get USB power from the Wii.

:?

Never heard of that about the PS3. I have had 7 PS3 Systems and tested most of them or used some and have not had 1 issue. I also did not have an issue with either of my 2 Wii Systems either. Actually, even though I love it, the 360 has had the most issues with me. I have had 3 - 360 Systems break down on me.

Mostly, just right place, right time. I would walk into a Toys R Us or CC when they just would get them in and buy them up.

They don't have to do a better job considering it's a small add-on. That's as good as it's going to get. If anybody is truly serious about viewing HD content then it would be best to get a stand alone HD-DVD player. If people want a Blu-Ray player then get a PS3.

Re: Convince me to buy a PS3

I ahve an idea. Don't. Wait for it to be $300 once they realize Blu-Ray is crap.

Applause, applause. Kudos, kudos. Best response yet. But you might as well stop there, because it's impossible to convince the PS3 fans of Blu-Ray's inefficiency. Believe me, I've tried.

Re: Convince me to buy a PS3

who cares how good bluray is?

ITS ONLY A MOVIE FORMAT WHO CARES

if the big selling point of a console is what kind of discs it plays, then we have problems

Re: Convince me to buy a PS3

Heh. I read somewhere that said, "If Blu-Ray fails, it will be like having a Betmax player for your Genesis. It would be cool, but not worth much."

A lot of us obviously have problems.

Re: Convince me to buy a PS3

Apparently, the blu-ray drive allows for more storage space on the actual game discs, considering that they, themselves are blu-ray discs. I don't see the point though, none of the games get anywhere near the PS3's full potential.

My brother got a PS3 today. He's actually walking to his friend's house with it - it's not even in a bag! He's a tough guy though, he probably won't get seriously injured when he gets jumped by 8 guys. I think it sucks personally, he got a couple of games (Resistance and Motorstorm, pretty much the only two exclusives) and I think they're both pretty rubbish. He actually thought I was jealous of him even though I have a 360 - LO-frikkin'-L!! I still can't believe he got one on launch day (I live in the UK).
