Convince me to get this instead of the X-Box 360

Right now, I see a big point of the PS3 being the backwards compatability with PS2 games (same goes for Wii and Gamecube or 360 and Xbox though).

If you've liked Playstation games in the past, the PS3 is gonna offer more of the same plus blu-ray compatability... It is also nice that you can use it as a DVD player and such.

If you just want a gaming system and have liked Nintendo's offerings, Wii is a safe bet.

BTW, not to derail the thread, but since you have a 360, have you gotten much out of the advance functions on it? Also, doesn't the 360 have HD-DVD support?

That's the biggest gimmick. If you don't have a DVD player by now then shame on you.

i agree with jack on the dvd thing!

but if you like spotty online play, glitchy backward compatibility and a gimmicky controller, then go RIGHT ahead!

A year ago, I didn't have a DVD player for my TV. :P

Shame on nothing, some of us have a lot of responsibilities and don't always have time or money to get certain toys.

I'd rather have a PS2 (or other gaming console) that can also play DVDs than to go out and spend another extra $80 for another unit with another plug that needs another shelf in my entertainment stand...

I've also gotta point out.. "gimmicky controller".. c'mon.. Nintendo should have the PATENT on gimmicky controllers...

But, let's not derail the topic.

The point here is convincing this guy to buy a PS3, or at least doing some non-whiny comparisons between the systems.

Cmon, I'm not worthy of actually having my user name put in your post I'm jut "this guy" :D :D. FRom what I've heard I should probably be picking up a wii considering all the negativity towards the PS3. I'll probably have all 3 consoles at some point. Its just a matter of when I get each one (excluding the 360 cause I already have that). 8)

Well then let's compare, because he's obviously made up his mind on getting the Wii.

I bought a Wii and right now i wish i hadn't... there is nothing worth playing but Zelda IMO

I hesitated when I bought my 360 cuz I consider the first Xbox crap so i was skeptical but I can honestly say it has won my respect with its great games thus far

Well its only been out for two months. Then again, so has the PS3 and its only worthwhile game was resistance:fall of man.
Oh and I already have a 360 and I love it. I just want another console to keep it company. Its not good to have a console living in isolation. :D :D :D

God no. We don't need another repeat of the infamous PS3 vs. chainsaw video. I hope to never see something like that again. Anyway, he could sell it for more than that. 8)

Well, I just had all 3 systems for 2 months.  I have since added another 360 and sold off the Wii and PS3.  I think you should buy all 3 (add the 2 others on with your 360) and see for yourself and in probably less than 2 months you will probably be like me and be back to just the 360.  I liked the Wii because it was fun with Wii Sports with my friends playing golf and stuff and drinking beer.  The PS3 was fun for Resistance, but other than that nada!  The 360 is a great machine.  But, buy all 3 and you will see for yourself.  Everyone has their own opinions and you just need to see what you will like in each and decide what to keep.

That's the problem. I can't afford both the PS3 and the Wii, just one and I don't wanna buy both and resell one and lose a ton of money. Just out of curiosity
1. Why buy two 360's
2. Why sell the PS3 and Wii

Don't buy any of them...yet.

The Wii and the PS3 both have limited libraries due to their infancy. Look at all the upcoming games for both systems and then see which one has the games that you really want more. Don't buy a system now just because of future games either. Wait until those games come out and then purchase both the games and the system at the same time.

I have kids, so the extra 360 is in their room.

Also, the Wii I sold for $335.00 shipped and only paid $266.00 (after taxes), so I did not lose money. The PS3, I was able to return it to Wal-Mart and they gave me a full refund. I actually lost no money at all and got lucky.

Which is available (and cheaper) on the GameCube...
