Fall '08 Dashboard Update

I'm sure there's more news around somewhere, but here's just a few things we can expect with this Fall's Dashboard update for the 360:

* Entirely new dashboard (thank goodness, it looks exponentially better and hopefully doesn't run as poorly as the current one does)
* 16:10 resolutions for those using VGA cables (though I don't see 1920x1200 listed, so I'm kind of sad about that)
* Avatars
* 8-way chat with avatars hanging out

That's just a few of the things to expect, I'm sure there's a lot more that I epic fail'd to list.

Sorry if this has been posted somewhere, though I didn't take notice of it if it was.

Yeah, I'm fine with just the free Gamer Pics. No need to make it more elaborate, and I'm not really a fan of the Wii's Miis either.

I really really like the new look of it. I also don't mind at all that they're using Avatars now. The 8 person chat room is really sweet now though.

lol, I never like avatars on any platform other than a PC, I think a userpic is good enough, This is so pointless. But a nice innovation I guess.

The Dashboard though, I wish you had the choice of shifting between either one, though it looks quite hot.

I hope they change the in-game blade too, make it less horribly slow and annoying. I really am all about minimalism, performance and efficiency rather than having to wait for it to load up and me reacting faster than it can.

Corny. Are they forcing us to use the Wiitarded looking things or can we still use Gamer Pics and, if not, will we get a refund for the Pics we've already purchased? :-X*

*I know, I know, don't hold yer breath.

Sucks if you bought Gamerpics. I'm sure they might hide them somewhere. Down in a dark corner.

Am I the only person that actually kinda likes the Avatars? :lol
I don't hate them, but I can't see myself spending hours on one.

I was never even a fan of the ones on the Wii let alone these. They are a nice additionary gimmick but nothing to toot ones collar over.

Xbox Miis...not avatars.

But anyways, I wonder when MS will get some exclusive iTunes deal going? The new update looks EXACTLY like iTunes setup.

Not exactly, but they did take some ideas from Apple's Cover Flow system.

@Recky: They did change the in-game blades too. I don't know if they are an improvement though.

Creepin: I definitely hope so, the in-game blades perform horribly and I'm not really fond of what they look like. I would assume they've changed it, I can't imagine they'd have the in-game blades still have the old themes while the dashboard has a completely new interface. I just want to know what happens to the people who spent money on GamerPics and themes and wallpapers and such.

Sadly, my superiors won't tell me anything about all this stuff when I ask them, they try to keep only to the program and nothing else...

Multi-user chat = gooooooood. But can it be done while in-game? I hate that voice chat only lets you do one-on-one chat. Alee, I like the avatars too. Hopefully it has more options than the Miis do though....

Another feature that is added to this update is:

Microsoft revealed that the Xbox 360 Autumn 2008 dashboard update will have new option to allow DVD games install onto the hard drive, which could cut down 30% of access time than directly loading data from DVD. For example Devil May Cry 4 only takes 10 minutes to install onto the hard drive.

Will it be an option though? Or will it be required like some PS3 games are? Cause installations of games won't fit very well on a 20gb Hard Drive...
