I don't know if I should buy a new console

Segatron Genesis... call me the wizard.
There is so much I've missed, but I'm one poor cuss..

I'm leaning towards a Cube...but there are some things I want to see on PS2 and Xbox as well as Cube

Yet all I have is a Sega Master System...yeah that's right...one system...I don't make much money, just enough to get by
 
In terms of the amount of content available...if I were to buy only one next gen system..it would be PS2. Simply because the ratio of good games vs bad games is greater on that console. Its been around the longest and has the largest library of games to choose from, plus it will play the entire PS1 library as well..which adds an even greater amount of available games to choose from.

The GC and Xbox do seem to have better graphics on average..but a smaller amount of must have titles imo. Also I myself would not buy an Xbox at all..simply because after having seen 3 of them become either completely unreliable or dead..I am no longer inclined to support Microsoft's glitchy baby.

Since you are strapped for cash maybe you should pick up a used system and some used games. the GC runs around $80 used at gamestop.

Agreed, but I don't know which one you should choose. Doc had a point with the large liabary of games the PS2 had. But if you love your Sega, then I would lean twords the GameCube
 
I have changed my point of view...

You shouldn't get a PS2, GC, or Xbox.

Just buy a Dreamcast or Saturn :lol

Much cheaper...and better games.
 
I would go the PS2 route. You can pick up PSone gams for like 10 dollars and still but PS2 greatest hits for 20. I think the games are great for the console and you can still watch dvd's when you dont feel like playing. This is just my opinion, which is biased because I only have a ps2 right now. :-\
 
I'd throw down for a Gamecube.... Its the cheapest of the systems... the games are decently cheap.. and you can get MANY good ones.

I think Im gonna go with Dave here..and get a GameCube, it's the cheapest of the bunch, it's not as pricy as Saturn or DC (Since most of the really good games on DC or Saturn goes beyond $20 a pop usually)

Plus all the titles I like, are $20 a pop or less now on Cube
 
You could always go the illegal way, by using emulators and roms, but I wouldnt know anything about that.
 
i think it personally depends on what genre of games you prefer to find the system. i personlly love the GC b/c of the multiplayer games. it has a lot of single player too that i like, but that's the main reason behind it for me
ps2 has my lovely rpg's and fighters
xbox, eh, unless you love halo, i got nothing.

i know things, but i still don't do it purely, i honor good games with purchases 0:)
 
I've been thinking of buying one of those small PS2... don't know. Honest to god MegaDrive if I do I'll send you my old PS2, not saying it will happen because I'm strapped for cash but yea...
 
Well, I'd say if it was multiplayer that you cared about, then an Xbox would definitely be the way to go. It's even got a couple single player gems that would be worth checking out. It is more expensive, but when you think about it, if you're only gonna get one console, you may as well spend as much as you need to ensure you're gonna be playing the games you want. $200 well spent is a lot better than $100 wasted. With the PS2 you're getting a ton of games where you're bound to find a bunch that you like. With an Xbox you're getting the best graphics and the best online/multiplayer. With the Cube you're getting your Marios and Zeldas, and not much else. I'd sleep on your decision one more night just to make sure that's what you want.
 
Multiplayer games I don't really care much for, since I rarely have company over at my place, but I tend to buy a 2nd controller just in case whenever buying a new console.

I love all kinds of genres, looking to get back into RPG's someday...and Cube has Tales of Symphonia, FF Crystal Chronicles, Skies of Arcadia Legends, PSO, and Fire Emblem (Soon).

I love Cube, because I can find almost every Sonic game on Cube pretty much with just two games (Sonic DX and Sonic Mega Collection)

Plus with a good number of Collection disc like "Midway's Arcade Treasures" has all the classics I love

I'm an old Zelda fan as well, and you got everything under the sun to play on Cube that is Zelda related

AND from my experience playing all 3 systems and collectively 500 games between them *at least* .... that statement is not correct.

Thats like saying SNK didn't have any good games but 2d fighters.

Sure, Nintendo is the best at their 3rd party games, but they also have many other good games.
Xbox does not have the best graphics.... except for a FEW games.  Other than those, the Ps2 can keep up with it. 

If you cannot find something you like on all 3 systems... then there is something wrong with the person playing the games..... and they either need to get out of gaming.... or just eliminate the system they are slighted against.

It has been my experience, having seen multiple games across multiple consoles on each console, and seeing 2 consoles matched up side by side on numerous occasions, that the Xbox has superior graphics in most games. Any 3rd party game that is across multiple consoles always looks best on Xbox, whether that's due to technology or just developer's getting lazy when it comes to porting, the Xbox comes out on top. PS2 games that keep up with Xbox versions usually have outstanding graphics for a PS2 game. The Cube can usually hold its own when compared graphic-wise to the Xbox, but there are only a few games for the Cube that really give the Xbox a run for its money. If you don't believe me that's fine, check out the IGN head-to-head-to-head articles. Nine times out of ten the Xbox version of the game will surpass both the PS2 and Gamecube in visuals and sound.

I was being fair. Nintendo's strength is in its first party titles, its "marios and zeldas". If you're buying a Gamecube and you've never heard of Zelda and you don't know who Mario is, you're probably making the wrong choice. I'm not saying that you wouldn't end up liking both those franchises, but realistically you'd find many more games that suited you on the PS2. As well with a PS2 you have the option to play online, you wouldn't miss out on any third party games at all, and as someone else mentioned earlier, its backwards compatible with PS1 games.

If you're not sure of which system you want to get the PS2 is a sure thing. You will find a ton of games you like playing on it, just based on the sheer number of games available for it.

As much as it pains me to say, I would probably go with the PS2. The system itself is more expensive, but a lot of the good games are inexpensive (as long as you don't want the newest stuff) and it's backwards compatible with PSone games. Plus, you can play DVDs on it. If you're a poor cuss, the multifunctionality is probably a good thing. ;)

But it does seem like you're leaning towards a Gamecube, and if you like Nintendo's franchises, why not get a Gamecube? :)

wouldn't want to get xbox for xbox live if you're strapped for cash though either

leave it as, to each their own, but i'd still take a cube or ps2 way over an xbox any day. i don't see the draw for me
if i were you with your tastes, probably go with the cube, the only thing maybe is the fighters that might not go to GC
