Man, the PS3 doesn't get any love...

There are only a few worthwhile standard games on the Wii right now. By early next year, totally different story.

That's true. The games it has out now though are reason enough for me to repurchase a Wii though. I just can't wait until more games come out too.

Let's get back to talking PS3 though. :)

Right. So, anyone think they'll actually keep the $400 around? I hope they do, and when it becomes cheap enough to put in without changing the price(I don't really see why it isn't now), they should put in backwards compatibility.

Well, let's see. The automobile had to compete with the horse. And during it's infancy, there were almost no roads to accommodate these new cars. Also, public opinion stated that they were toys of the rich, gimmicky and would never last. So in saying this, yes, it does bear relevance to this anti-Wii rhetoric. In other words, saying that the Wii is gimmicky is moot, to say the least.

If need be, one can use the same argument towards the PS3. I mean, who really needs Blu-Ray and the ever-laughable bluetooth control scheme. All gimmicks. "New flare", as one could put it. Same argument. And I am sure that every PS3 fan will defend the PS3's own gimmicks and continue to trash the Wii. Hypocrisy at it's fullest.

Sixaxis was also a clear gimmick, as Lair widely showed that it sorta sucked. Not to mention, virtually no games use it, and most of the time you won't use it if you have the option. Let's just hope the next Gameboy won't disappoint with its three axis.

Well I wish I could make a good argument for the Wii, but mine is collecting dust as well. I don't think it's a gimmick, though. I just think they went for a different audience and I'm not part of it. I love the games that I have on the Wii, but the lack of a good online plan hurts it.

But the PS3 has the same problem for me. Very few of the games appeal to me. The PS3 is a little too hardcore. There doesn't seem to be as much variety in what it offers genre-wise as the PS2 had.

The 360 IMO hit the sweet spot this gen. Good games, good amount of games, good online plan, and a variety of genres.

Of course I could chalk all of it up to the 360's one year headstart.

I think we all need to give it at least another year before we really decide one way or another what's a gimmick and what's not.

You still have Metroid to play, though, you just let it get overshadowed. I agree, the PS3 doesn't have that whole everything thing the PS2 did, and it probably won't until it gets a price drop and becomes affordable to more people. The 360 does have some good stuff, but it really sucks hardware wise. Stop dying on people, please. Going back to the Wii, it has big plans. If any of you happen to get NP, go through to the scheduled Wii games list and look it through, will ya?

"Ignorant Comments"

Well sir Ive given the Wii some many chances its not even funny. The fun I had with the Wii only lasted about 2 weeks. then a new game came out and it felt like the same old thing as it did the first time. Its a never ending cycle and hopefully maybe they can actually come out with a GOOD Game not a standard game.

Let's see. All those listed above, changed lives. I don't see how those were considered new flares in the video game industry. It's not really a fact because of that. What did the automobile have to compete with? What did the telephone have to compete with? People didn't have a choice in the matter, so they had to go with the new flare. :lol
The automobile had the horse and buggy, and at first, it was less efficient than it. The telephone had to compete with the telegraph, which was already established and a far more effective means of communication (because of the lack of other people with telephones, lol). I see the Wii leading to similar changes in the game industry as those two made in their respective industries. It will grow the video game industry, beyond the niche it currently is, and really change the face of it.

I won't argue that many Wii games are pretty shallow and gimmicky, but the fact that the Wii has made gaming so much more mainstream makes it worthy of recognition.

*looks at Limewire* Wow, hard to tell why it makes more than the music industry. Face it, video games aren't really mainstream. Except now.

Video Games as a niche?
Yes. The market is maybe 150 million, worldwide. That's about 1/4 of a percent (0.25%) of the world's population. The music industry and movie industry have a far lager audience than the video game industry.

Dude the Video Game Industry accumulate more money than the music industry shortly to be the movie industry

By definition, the videogame industry is a niche market. Pretty much any industry that caters to a hobby is a niche market.

Plus, with stuff like Netflix and iTunes, along with less legal means, the other two will continue to get smaller, odds are. Sure, games have ROMs and stuff, but ROMs usually suck, and not a lot of people use them.

Probably less people than, say, people who get illegal music...

Either way, this is more off topic than our Wii discussion. Let's try to get back on track.

So wait, we can't point out the Wii's supremacy when you people claim Halo to be God? Meet me halfway here somebody.
