Over-rated?!?!?!?

I know I'm new here, but I just gotta say something. I may be flamed to hell because of this, but I think Final Fantasy VII was incredibly over-rated. Don't get me wrong, it's an incredible game, lots of fun, and countless side quests and crap to do. But one of the main reasons, I think, that it was so famous is because that it was the first RPG that many people played. Alot of people I know seem to love FF7 but have never played anything before it and choose not to because of the lack of decent graphics and show-offie magic, spells, and summons.

I don't think the game should've gotten as much publicity as it did.

Anyone agree with me at the slightest. I'm really distracted right now, so I can't really get my thoughts together and explain it in better detail.

i agree 100%, bro

its a great game, but a cell phone game, shooter, potential remake and feature length film are taking it to far

I think it's a tad overrated. The story and character relationships though, are not. If they remade this game, but only with updated graphics, I'd be more than happy.

One of the things that propels a very popular game or franchise into an overrated mess is money.

Final Fantasy has long been a very popular series. The games are arguably fun and challenging. Everyone knows them and likely have played at least one. Now, what is Square-Enix to do with all this popularity? Spin off a plethora of stuff and hope it sells.

You have a case in your belief that Final Fantasy is overrated. But if people are still buying, then I'd say your opinion is a bit moot...

RPGs are all about story... if you took the time to go through the game you would know its story is very top notch and at the time it had great graphics and the gameplay was awesome, but now we see it all the time and everybody thinks of it as another rpg but it did revolutionize the genre and really set the bar for future rpgs

The story was ridiculous. It started off cool enough, then got sidetracked and eventually lost entirely, and in the end for no apparent reason you have to save the universe from destruction. Most of the "plot twists" were totally immaterial to the beginning or end, so they didn't matter.

I've always thought the FF series was overrated, but that's largely in part to the fact that I just can't get into turn based RPG style battling. Which is also probably why out of all the FF games the only one I could actually sit down and play was 12, but even that lost my interest fairly quickly.

QFT. I thought some of the twists in the story were implemented rather poorly.

I don't think that FFVII is over-rated on it's own. Maybe the whole FFVII "franchise." The game itself was a lot more ambitious and had an interesting story for it's time, IMO.
