The offical FALLOUT 3 Thread

I was quite baffled today when people were comparing Fallout 3 to Bioshock. It should be compared to Fallout....
Rather, BioShock should be compared to Fallout. I would be incredibly surprised if Irrational wasn't influenced by Fallout. I mean, they're both uber-gory games set in ruined art deco civilizations. The two being that similar in terms of setting isn't coincidence.

And for the record, Fallout 3 does carry over a lot of elements from the first two but it somehow can't avoid feeling like a mod of Oblivion.

After about an hour an a half of traveling, I've reached Rivet City. I picked up a Missile Launcher, Flamethrower, and Sniper Rifle along the way, and I'm gonna save for the Rock-It Launcher schematics now.

FYI, I bought it on the PC after trying it out and seeing it ran smoothly. And after finding out I could get the achievements via Game for Windows I cried tears of joy.

God, 11 hours in and I'm absolutely amazed with this game.I just finished up some "business" with Tenpenny, and I'm gonna head back to the Underground, and see if The Pentagon is anywhere near it. I wanna join the Brotherhood of Steel like in the first game. :D

i think this game rocks :D
I think you're right. :D

I finished the main quest (which was too short) so I reloaded my last save and started doing more sidequests. I'm about 35 hours in right now and I wish I had some kind of guide or something. XD

I love this game....makes me wanna watch Mad Max for no reason....(Maybe because those movies rocked as much as this game? Ironic? yes)

Wow! Fallout 3 sold 4.7 million in its first week. So why the hell do only like three people on this forum have it? :lol

I'm waiting for them to patch the PS3 version (unless they have already? I should check)...so far I've heard a couple people really loving it, and a couple people saying it's uber boring. I'll find out myself hopefully next week.

If you still have a 360 (I thought you sold it, but I don't really remember) I would recommend getting Fallout 3 for it instead of the PS3 version. The PS3 version is pretty buggy apparently, and even patches usually don't fix all of the issues. If the PS3 is your only option though, it's still definitely worth it. It's one amazing game, outside of how short the main quest ended up being. >_>

Yeah, I just have a PS3...but apparently, I've been hearing talks that alot of these bugs and glitches will be fixed in a pretty big update patch. I really do want to try it out though for sure. :)

I has it! I just got out of the Vault!

I killed the Overseer and I feel bad...but that's for killing Jonas! XD

Got the LE with the lunch box and bobblehead. Been too busy playing the game to bother with Internet forums.

Yeah, the game is a massive time sink. I don't want to start playing Fallout 3 unless I know I've got a couple free hours to do so, but that seems to be a fairly rare occasion. There are definitely a lot of things to like about this game, but it is very bleak, and I can't help but wonder if Fable aesthetics in this free-roaming adventure style of gameplay wouldn't have been a more pleasing choice.

Fallout 3 excels at what it sets out to do, so I can't legitimately say it does anything particularly wrong. Still, if there was some sort of "concept blender" in which we could make a Molyneux/Bethesda milkshake, I'd do it. :lol

No, just no. Ok, since I remembered this here are my reasons why I think that's a bad idea. Bethesda already has a problem making games that put too much in as is and they never seem to focus on the main story of the game. As for Molyneux, I just don't like him period, he promises too much in his game and never seems to really deliver on his promises. It's like being promised Cheese Cake and you get a Carrot Cake, still enjoyable just not what you wanted/were promised. If we were to have a mash-up of developers/directors I would much rather have a director that has a very creditable reputation of making great stories and have a developer that doesn't overwhelm the consumer with tons of features, too much cake can be bad.

My friend actually got really bothered that I blew up Megaton. I think he's becoming too emotionally invested in the game. :lol

There's only one way to deal with people like that. Call him a sissy. :lol

I think games like Fallout 3 might as well be called "don't take crap from anyone" simulators. I guess playing a "good" (and by that I mean "doormat") character could be fun... to a point. The game is at its prime when you're put into a situation that directly calls on your character to assert themselves as with or against some person, faction, or ideal, and instead you decide to side with yourself.

For example, the first time I came to Megaton there was a hobo sitting outside the city. He was thirsty, and asked me for water. I felt sorry for him and gave him some. Then, without even thanking me, he asked for more. I proceeded to beat him to death and took everything he had. Some people might be "bothered" by that, but they're not fully considering my position. I'm not about to let some jerkoff play the pity card and take everything I own. I'm also not gonna let Megaton turn into a slum. If someone wants to drink clean water, then they can get a job and work for it like everyone else. Clean water doesn't just fall out of the sky (anymore).

In your case, you vaporized what is possibly the last remnant of civilization on the planet. Some might feel sad about that, but I'm sure you had your reasons. Tell your friend not to judge you too harshly until he's walked a few miles in your shoes through a radioactive wasteland. And then tell him if he doesn't give you those shoes back you'll vaporize the town he lives in. Also steal everything he owns when he's not looking. Then maybe he'll get some perspective.
