I mean, I agree, it is stupid, but how are aliens any less believable than half the stuff Jesus did?
Yes, I know, but people only make fun of it because it's an unbelievable idea.Hinesmdc said:as for scientology, it literally was made up by a science fiction writer about twenty years ago. no joke, thats where it came from.
Polygon said:Because the Bible is far more believable than a science fiction novel.
Jesus turning water into wine is more believable than there being life somewhere else? I'm not saying Scientology is right on anything, people just make fun of it because it involves aliens.Polygon said:Because the Bible is far more believable than a science fiction novel.
Go see if your parents make fun of Scientology. Then ask them what the Scientologists think happened. Most of the people who rip on it have no clue about the story behind it.Hinesmdc said:No, they make fun of it because it involves aliens coming to earth and freezing everything.
It's got as much proof as the Bible. :/and a lot of other ridiculous things that never happened.
Yeah, exactly, everyone's already on the God idea, and sadly, they are equally lacking in proof.x2 said:Hmmm, good thread, fhq. To me, logically, none of it is believable, it's just that I "want" to believe in God. However, I would rather *not* believe in aliens. Guess that don't make much sense, but it's the best way I could explain it.

x2 said:Yea, it's just that so many people want it to be real, that they just don't see logic...*imo*

When I look at the scope, it seems the opposite. With how big the universe is, it's very possible everything had to be right at least once. Not to mention, life adapts, so at an early stage, we would have a large(by scientific standards, which are actually quite small) window of which we could grow to live in. And, hate to go this far, but with evolution pretty much proven, doesn't that cut out the part of the bible that says God just made man? I'm not doubting either side, I'm just saying...Polygon said:It seems to me that someone wanted there to be life on this planet and it seem less like coincidence. Especially when you look at the scope of it.
Once again, you are allowed to believe what you want, but there's no hard evidence for either side.I believe that science is an explanation of the way God does things. He invented the laws of physics, don't you think he'd abide by them?
We're not talking about faith, we're talking about why Scientology is that unbelievable compared to half the bible. You can't use logic when it comes to faith, that's why it's called faith.
How do you know the novel isn't like the bible? Both are just bases for the religion. People shape their own thoughts around both, and believe what they choose. You don't have to think the bible is fact if you want to believe in God, you just have to believe in God. The bible is just a way to unite the people who think it. Not to mention, no proof(again) that the bible isn't fiction. Shouldn't really matter if it's fiction or not, like you said, can't use logic when it comes to faith. To me that is FAR more believable that a science FICTION novel by L. Ron Hubbard.
Nooo, I'm asking why Scientology is that illogical compared to it. Preach faith all you want, both are on the same level, it's just that most people are biased about it.Polygon said:You're talking about the Bible and calling belief in it illogical.
Uh huh, I've heard. That is faith and can't be held to logic. Having faith in and of itself is illogical.
Read my base point. As I said, the book is sold in the science fiction section for a reason. The author will tell you he made it up.
You'd say it's silly because it's different. No matter what, you will. Scientologists think that Christianity isn't believable, you don't think Scientology is, neither one is wrong, and everyone still feels the need to say it's a dumb idea because it's not theirs.Next thing you know people will actually start practicing Jedi and you'll question why I would call it silly.
I can tell you haven't read the thread.Strubes said:Another religious thread?
I believe in God and the Holy Bible. Scientology is about a book some guy wrote when he was drugged.
That is faith and can't be held to logic. Having faith in and of itself is illogical.
I'm not debunking anything. :/ You're still missing the whole point.Strubes said:Read the whole thing. I agree with Polygon's previous post though.
It is all too common in today's age for people to try and debunk the Bible and such, and try and point out these facts. Just believe what you want.![]()
