Don't worry, I put this in the PS3 forum as well. Just replace "x-box 360" with "ps3".

Anyway, I am planning on purchasing either a PS3 or X-Box 360 as soon as I get a good game for either one. Launch games are fair enough, but I want to wait a bit so the developers can take the full advantage of these systems. But which one to get? Both look great, so it's basically the games I'm concerned about. What games will be on which system, and which will be multiplatform? Mulltiplayer don't interest me at all. It's no fun shooting some guy on the other side of the world online. It's much more fun to shoot someone in the same room and hear his or her reaction. It makes things a lot more intense. And before you mention multitap, multile controllers and all that, I really don't think we'll be more than four people at any given time. Hardly more than two, even.

Anyway, I like games like SSX, Tony Hawk, King of Fighters, Mortal Kombat and so on. I've barely bothered with FPS games, but love a good roleplaying game. (and with Dragon Age, Neverwinter Nights 2 and Elder Scrolls 4 on PC, console RPG's don't matter that much.) So which system should I get?

even if you don't like what Nintendo did with the gamecube i would suggest waiting untell Nintendo reveals the console formally later this year.

but when it comes to the xbox 360 and the ps3 here's what it comes down to.

xbox 360: the next xbox due this year. rumour has it that the its graphic processor is the "middle child" meaning that it is less powerfull than the ps3 but maybe more powerfull than the revolution. it seams that xbox 360 will try to get the "whole market" the moms, sisters, fathers everyone. people get a "free" service from xbox live that will make it able for people to design there content and sell it to others. this to many people seems corky. there is some rumors around that many of the third party games that saw the ps3 moved over there projects to the ps3 but that is only speculation. the xbox 360, software like gears of war was amazing full auto is amazing. overall the system will have some "silly" things about it but over all it looks like a good machine

ps3: the "powerhouse" that is know as the ps3. much of the buzz about it is due to its "cell" processor witch is described as a supercomputer in a small chip. there is a "massive" debate over the best looking game in the show killzone 2 witch is said to have been pre-rendered. if you like blue-ray(who doesn't) you will like the ps3. blue ray disks can hold up to 50G of space. overall the system is going to be VERY expensive. some say in the 600$ range or more

so witch one is good for you it depends. if you like very expensive systems with high proformunce. or do you like the medium system with some silly online options you decide.

If you're waiting to see what games they'll end up with and see what developers would come up with, then you dont need our help. You should just wait a while once they are already launched and base your choice on that. Things are secretive still at this point.

If its games you're concerned about I don't see how you can even debate this. The PS3 starts off with a library of over 13,000 games just by being backwards compatible to the PS1 and PS2. If the trend continues (and I don't see why it wouldn't) the PS3 will have more new games than the Xbox 360 and the Revolution combined.

I'm not sure. So what if the PS3 is backwards compatible? I already have a PS1 and PS2, so I can play those games anyway. Good looks? Doesn't matter if the games are bad. I just don't like FPS games, and even if I did they should be on PC anyway. Add making the PS3 very expensive, and you've got yourself a new xbox fan. ;)

yah but like you could put those towards buying a ps3 and in the end still being able to play the ps1 and ps2 games on the ps3 so it all worls out in the end

Well then it appears you have your mind almost made up. Get an xbox then. We all know, at least I hope we do, that good looks dont make the game. But you should wait to see what games are coming out for what in order to make your decision. If I were you I would wait a while past launch to really see the differences and to see which one intrigues you more.

excellent constructive criticism Elament... lol

I'm going for the 360. Like someone else said, it's not all about looks; even though the PS3 (pre-rendered or not) looks quite pretty, I've been more than pleased with M$'s games.

First of all, many games are cross-platform anyway, so it doesn't matter what platform you have. Second, I've been disappointed so many times with both games and movie since all they are about is good looks and sound. I would rather have solid gameplay. King of Fighters: Maximum Impact for instance. It's one of the best fighting games I've played, and at the same time it looks a bit dated. Heck, KoF: 02/03 are even 2d, and I'm very interested! :o

But strangely, I put this very same question on the x-box360 forum (just replace x-box with ps3), and know what they said? Get a PS3? :? Even xbox fans say the PS3 will be better?

Dont listen to them. Nobody knows for sure which one will be better. Plus you seem to have different tastes then most people here it seems. So just wait until you see what kind of games are coming out for what system. Thats the only way I can think of for you to make your decision.

I did get a good clue at IGN. Just click E3 Games, select a system and read until you drop. Well, maybe not til you drop, but at least for a while. A minute, perhaps. It'sj just a list.  ;) I want Elder Scrolls 4, and I don't want to spend money upgrading my computer. This looks good for the x-box.

There are more PS2 exclusives than on either GC or Xbox. Its not even close. You said yourself in your original post that its all about the games. Well the PS3 is going to continue the PS2 and PS1's legacy of having the most third party support out of anything other console. It is going to have more choice than either the Revolution (new games) or the 360. Most games that come out on the Revolution and on the 360 will be out for PS3 as well, except there will be a ton of games that are PS3 exclusive.

And as for the games that are carried across all three systems, why settle for an inferior version? The PS3 is looking to be the most powerful system so far, so any games that are multiconsole will look and sound best on the PS3.

Once again, if games are all that matter to you, I don't see how this is even a choice. Aside from Nintendo exclusives and Halo 3 and 4, you're not going to miss out on any games with a PS3.

You don't seem to understand that the masterminds working at Xbox know the way how the Playstations have been marketed. Releasing the PSP around the same time as the DS was genius, since everyone is going to go for the portable PS2 (With lesser graphics) rather then a portable N64 (Not GC, it has far more graphical capabilities no one took advantage off due to, again, bad marketing against Sony and Xbox) with two screens.

The DS is orginal but just not enough to please alot of gamers who just want good ol' normal gaming units. I have to comend the DS for orignality.

Anyway, PS3 won't seem to have such a victorious launch now that Xbox is willing to unleash everything at a earlier date (Which is a great marketing idea, since people will be to preoccupied with 360 to bother buying the same thing but different creator)

My thoughts.

I will concede that Microsoft is definitely the leader when it comes to marketing their console. However, I think a lot of PS2 owners (and there are a lot of them) were happy with it and will wait for the next PS3. Plus I think a lot of the thunder created by the PS1 was built on by the PS2 and later stolen by the Xbox. if Sony had not entered the console world and the Xbox was the only competitor to the GC, I don't think its marketing would have been half as effective.

Playstation was the first system to make videogames "cool", and I don't think the PS3 will be anything less.

and if you think about it any game that is multiplatformed or made on xbox 360 and ps3 just might have to have some touch ups and all just simply becouse they would be wasting the power of the ps3. keep in mind that the ps3 is 2 times more powerful than the xbox 360.

$600 for the PS3? Wow, I've got some saving up to do

Maybe I'll just ignore both the x-box and ps3, and upgrade my computer instead. It would be cheaper.

^Doubt that. I hear the X360 will be released November 2nd for $300. That's almost nothing towards a good computer (not sure what you have now).
