Why PS3 will flop

The 64 wasn't a failure, its just that the PS was such a great success. I think Sony's done an incredible job of promoting their systems, and opening up the gaming market. They have the largest fan base that any company has ever had in the history of gaming. They are going to be dam sure that they don't make any mistakes that could lose them the console war. And it takes more than one mistake to lose a fan base that large. Look how many mistakes Nintendo had to make before they lost their audience. :lol

I don't think the PSP is any indication of whether or not the PS3 will succeed or not. Even if it was, the PSP is not doing poorly. Its not doing as good as anticipated, but its far from a failure. I also don't think price will be that big a factor. Every next gen console is gonna be expensive. GC was the cheapest system out of all three consoles this console war, and it did the worst out of all three. That means people will dish out a little more for the system they want than cheap out and settle for something less.

again 1-2% of the American population has an HDTVit not that popular.

blue ray is expensive and really do you need 50G of space on one disk for that cost?

the cell dose provide unrivaled processing power but dose all that really apply to games?

the CPU of a system runs the applications so it might help but do you ever see a slowdown in a game?

and the N64 a failure? not really 32 million where sold world wide.

The Cell isn't any more powerful than the new AMD or Intel chips.

Actually they are. It's just that they were designed for multimedia in mind so they wont do that good on a normal day-to-day pc, unless all your going to do is play games and watch movies. I just want to say that I play games. I love to play games. It doesnt matter what system they are on. If I can afford it I will get all three systems because I dont want to miss out on great games. Instead of trying to convince us why the PS3 will suck, maybe you should go to the xbox board (if you havent already) and post how great it might be. I just never saw the point of bashing a system. If you dont like it, then you have other options.

why would you need a chip that runs everything raises the price and yet people only want games. if i wanted a complete media center in a box i would buy a better computer

You dont which is why they produced the cell chip.

N64 was not a failure...
exactly... it wasn't even close to failure.  It just failed to score with the 3rd party suppliers.  According to numbers in the general discussion section.... The N64 sold more than the Xbox and Gamecube combined.

It was an AWESOME system... just not given a chance.

Plus the PS1 took off and used cd's instead of cartridges. The PS1 just happend to have a better lifespan than the N64.

lifespan? what are you talking about,t i still play my N64. its all a based on your opinion

Lifespan, meaning the day it went on sale till the day they shipped the last system. And whats my opinion? I never said it was a failure, just that the PS1 happened to do better. That in no way implies that the N64 was a failure. As a matter of fact I play mine also. I play all my systems except for my original NES because it wont read games anymore.

Wow you really do hate Sony. Its cool. But I would like to see some of your sources about them being fed up with the games that got rejected. I dont keep up too much with what goes inside in the industry as I used to.

So:

1. Nothing wrong with HDTV. Plenty of people have them and more are going to be buying them in the next five years. (which is what im estimating the lifespan of the PS3). Blu ray is actually not useless because it holds more data and can have better loading times. As for the seven controllers, I know not many are going to use them but im sure that there are plenty of people who play Madden or other sports games that use up those controllers. Now you dont have to go and buy a seperate multi-tap.
2. Has happened before with the PS2. Developers got the hang of it and started making better games. Im assuming it will be the same.
3. Power isnt the only thing that makes a system better. Its the developers who make the system with their creativity. The original NES didnt stop developers from making great games with their limited resources, or even atari or other vintage systems.
4. This is where I would like to see your sources. Because this happens with every system. Not all of them are going to get clearance for release.
5. I dont see how this helps your argument. So teenagers like it. That doesnt necessarily make it better. Im sure there are some things that you really like but many people dont. Does that mean that what you like sucks?
6. Well that is quite a blow to Sony. But Sony has a lot more franchises in their camp, for now.
7. I want to read some of this. Where can I read some of his "ramblings"?
8. Nobody has won 2 generations in a row, but Sony did it. At least I think I read that some where, (please correct me if im wrong). This one doesnt really help your case either. Its irrelevant because Sony still has a chance to win it again. This one can only be predicted. Every system is against the odds.

So I disagree. Mainly because its still to early to tell.

nintendo did win two generations on two types of platforms

NES and super NES
and gameboy and gameboy advance

1. Too many useless features. 2 HDTVS 7 controllers on 1 console, Blu Ray.
2. Hard to develop for. Developers are saying PS3 is a nightmare to program for.
3. The Cell chip is not nearly as powerful as Sony says it is  and the multi cores make it VERY hard to develop on
4. SCEA are jerks,. they rejected 100s of Games for US release and companies are fed up wtih sony.
5. Fickle fans XBOX sales up PS2 sales down. XBOX is the new IT thing among Fickle teenagers
6. Square and others jumping ship. Square pledges 360 Support, Sony lost Virtua Fighter 5 from Sega It'll be on 360 now that hurts sales in Japan.
7. Ken Kutaragi's Ramblings, NOBODY is listening to him but the Rabid Fanboys. It's Obvious he's scared
8. NOBODY has ever won 3 generations in a Row.

Agree Disagree

Explain why

You sound like a typical 360 fanboy that thinks the PS3 has nothing, so that's how my response is gonna be.

1. Next gen is gonna have HD features, don't bug me. 2 screens is a nice little feature but I don't know anyone who would use it. There are 7 controllers because bluetooth has up to 7 channels. Blu-ray discs holds so much more data than the discs now.

2. Not what I hear...I heard the 360 is harder to program for. None of the 360 games are using all 3 processors because programmers can't figure out how to thread all 3.

3. How exactly do you know how powerful the cell chip is. Unless I missed some article who knows how powerful it is. Seems pretty powerfull so far but well just wait till the PS3 is realeased

4. But yet PS2 has a bigger library than xbox... hmmm

5. Last time I checked PS2 had higher sales than the xbox.. correct me if I'm wrong.

6. Square hasn't pledged fully to the 360. As for virtua fighter I don't play that.

7. Doesn't Peter Moore do the same thing with the 360? Actually Dont all consoles have a spokesman?

8. Theres a first for everything.
